Detailed duties - a list of all the relevant duties
attached to the post;
Having completed a job analysis, a job description can
then be written, describing what the job involves and
the areas of responsibility. A typical job description
should include:
Conditions of employment - general information
on salary/wage, holiday entitlement, hours of work,
pension arrangements, welfare and social facilities,
trade union membership arrangements, training,
etc;
Title of the post - including grade, post number,
department/section, location, etc;
Date it was written - this is important because duties
and responsibilities may change over time.
Summary of the job - outlining the key objectives
of the post;
Figure 6.3 shows an example of a typical job description
for a Sales Consultant in a city centre branch of a travel
agency chain.

travel products through training and personal

Job summary
To work with the Branch Manager and other staff to
provide previous and current clients with a fi rst-class
standard of service in meeting all their travel needs.
Conditions of the post
Hours of work are from 9am to 5.30pm fi ve days per
week.
Saturday working is compulsory, with a weekday off in
lieu.
Staff are expected to work overtime by arrangement
at busy periods of the year.
Some evening work will be necessary.
Salary is in accordance with Summer Travel's standard
pay scales.
The post carries a holiday entitlement of 22 days per
year, plus Bank Holidays.
On- and off-the-job training will be provided for the
postholder.
Detailed duties
1. Advising clients on the details and availability of a
range of holidays and other travel products.
2. Liaising regularly with travel principals in the
process of selling holiday products.
3. Issuing tickets and other travel documentation.
4. Maintaining brochure stocks, window displays
and other promotional activities.
5. Carrying out the range of duties by telephone,
computer, direct contact, fax, telex, courier and
post.
6. Handling cash and completing non-cash
transactions.
