In-Depth Information
The job description is sent out to enquirers with an
application form and further details as appropriate.
As well as indicating the type of experience and skills
that the successful candidate will need to demonstrate,
some person specifi cations also show how each
candidate will be assessed against the criteria, for
example by what is written in the application form,
at interview, by means of a test, etc. Some person
specifi cations divide the experience and skills into
those that are essential and those that are desirable.
Person specii cations
At the same time as they are compiling a job
description, many organisations also draw up a person
specifi cation, sometimes called a job specifi cation,
which gives details of the ideal person for the job in
terms of skills, character, previous experience and
qualifi cations. Figure 6.4 gives an example of a person
specifi cation for an Assistant Events Offi cer post with a
voluntary sector organisation.
Activity 6.6
Using Figures 6.3 and 6.4 for reference, write a job
description and a person specifi cation for a new post
of Travel Consultant in your busy city-centre travel
agency.
