Task 2
Knowing that you are currently studying travel and tourism, y
o
ur uncle has asked you to carry out some market
research into the feasibility of setting up a new travel and t
o
urism business in your local area. It could be a
new travel agency, a cycle hire scheme, a B & B or perhaps a ser
i
es of guided walks for visitors - he is leaving
the choice up to you. You are to plan, design documentation an
d
conduct a market research activity for the
proposed travel and tourism business (P4). Your plan must include your market research objectives, target
group and appropriate research methods. You must design resear
c
h documentation, e.g. a questionnaire
containing at least 10 questions, and show that you have consulted secondary research sources as well. Your
market research must be conducted in a professional manner with an appropriate number of respondents for
the results to be meaningful. The results of your research should be sup
p
orted by a short report or log.
You must explain how the plan and the documentation contributed to meetin
g
the market research objectives
(M3). Analyse the results of the market research activity, recommending how t
h
ese results could benefi t the
proposed business (D2).
This task is designed to produce evidence for P4, M3 and D2.
Task 3
Your uncle is pleased with the fi ndings of your market research and would like to launch t

e new business
venture. He would like you to plan a promotional campaign for the selected travel and tou
r
ism business to
achieve the stated marketing objectives (P5). You are also to prepare an item of promoti
o
nal material as
part of the planned promotional campaign for your target market (P6). This could be a leafl et,
p
oster, press
release, etc. You must explain how the planned promotional campaign would enable the obje
c
tives to be
met (M4).
This task is designed to produce evidence for P5, P6 and M4.
