Introduction
This assignment is made up of a number of tasks which, when s uccessfully completed, are designed to give
you suffi cient evidence to meet the Pass (P), Merit (M) and Disti n ction (D) grading criteria for the unit. If you
have carried out the activities and read the case study in this unit, you will already have done a lot of work
towards completing the tasks for this assignment.
Scenario
Your uncle runs a successful, small tourist attraction in your area and has b een asked by the local council
tourism department to make a presentation on marketing to other tourism b usinesses nearby.
Task 1
Your uncle would like you to research and produce the presentation, which should:

Outline the background and concepts of marketing (P1). Your presentation should cover the defi nition
and functions of marketing, the marketing mix, marketing segmentation, market i ng communication
methods and e-marketing.

Review the factors infl uencing marketing decisions using examples from different travel and tourism
