In 1908, Theodore Tobler and his production manager, Emil Baumann, invented the Toblerone in Bern, Switzerland. It was an unusual triangular-shaped chocolate bar with almond and honey nougat. The name derives from Tobler (the name of the company and family) plus torrone, an Italian nougat specialty. In 1970, the Tobler Company merged with the Jacobs Suchard Company of Switzerland, which became one of the largest chocolate companies in the world. In 1990, Kraft General
Foods International acquired Jacobs Suchard, including the Toblerone brand. Today, To-blerone is sold in 120 countries (more countries than any other Kraft brand).
