Peter Paul Candy Company

In 1919, Peter Paul Halajian and five Armenian associates founded the Peter Paul Candy Manufacturing Company in New Haven, Connecticut. One of their first products was a coconut and chocolate bar called Mounds, which was released in 1920. Following up this success was their Almond Joy, which was first manufactured in 1946. In 1972, Peter Paul acquired the York Cone Company, which made York Peppermint Patties, then a regional chocolate candy. Peter Paul expanded production and aggressively promoted it nationally, beginning in 1975. In 1978, Cadbury acquired the Peter Paul Candy Company. Ten years later, Cadbury sold the Mounds, Almond Joy, and York Peppermint Patties brands to the Hershey Company, which markets the brands today.
