Switched-reluctance motors (SRMs) are designed in a manner very similar to that for VR step motors. The major difference is that SRMs are designed for continuous running, whereas VR step motors are designed for a high torque-to-inertia ratio and high step accuracy.
As a starting point, the SRM has a rotor diameter Dr (Fig. 5.100) which is approximately one-half of the stator diameter.
