Charging Circuits

The charging circuit is considered as one of the simplest circuits on the vehicle. The main output is connected to the battery through a suitable size cable. The warning light is connected to an ignition supply on one side and to the alternator terminal at the other. A wire may also be connected to the phase terminal if it is used. Two typical wiring circuits are presented in Fig. 14.34. The output of the alternator is usually connected to the starter main supply for wiring convenience. The wires used should be as short as possible to reduce the voltage drop in the circuit. The voltage drop across the main supply wire when the alternator is producing full output current should be less than 0.5 V.
