Exopterygota (Insects)

Exopterygota is a division of the class Insecta in the phylum Arthropoda. The orders of insects in this division have wings that develop externally during the maturation of the larva (which is variously referred to as a larva, nymph, or naiad). There are two super-orders in this division: the Orthopteroidea (which includes the orders Blattodea, Dermaptera, Embiidina, Grylloblattodea, Isoptera, Mantodea, Mantophasmatodea, Orthoptera, Phasmatodea, and Plecoptera) and the Hemipteroidea (Hemiptera, Phthiraptera, Psocoptera, Thysanoptera, and Zoraptera). Except for the developed wings and genitalia, there is a strong morphological resemblance between larvae and adults (although habitats and biology may differ greatly).
