The 1937 floodwaters reached the second floor of the Citizens Bank and Trust Company
building at 460 Spring Street. Designed by Louisville architect Arthur Loomis, the bank was
built in 1908. Today the historic building is owned and occupied by LifeSpring, Inc., a non-
profit organization that offers a variety of mental health services. LifeSpring has converted
the old bank vault into a museum made up of historic artifacts found there.
Rose Hill School, a three-story elementary school built atop a small hill at Indiana Avenue
and Fourth Street, stood above the floodwaters and so became a place of refugee for des-
perate Jeffersonville residents forced from their homes by the rising water. Here a U.S.
