Jeffersonville's mammoth U.S. Army Quartermaster Depot was thought to be above flood
stage. As these 1937 motorists discovered, it was not. The military supply facility was both a
local landmark and a major employer in Jeffersonville. The depot had its beginnings in the
Civil War. In World War II, its busy buildings extended for more than 10 city blocks. The
army deactivated it in 1958. Today only a handful of the buildings remain.
