According to the caption on this souvenir postcard, the house in the background was ripped
from its foundation by the flood. It had stood where the police officer is trying to wash some
of the mud off his boots. After working around the clock for days, Louisville's exhausted po-
lice and firefighters got some welcome help when firefighters from New York, Boston, and
other cities and state troopers from more than a half dozen states were flown into the isol-
ated city.
