5.5 Storm Surge Simulation
Hiron Point of Bangladesh is the nearest place to the landfall point of the
cyclone Aila-2009 where there is a tide gauge of Bangladesh Inland Waterways
Transport Authority (BIWTA). That is why, simulated surge height at Hiron
Point was considered. Maximum surge height was attained between 1045 UTC
and 1200 UTC of 25 May 2010 (Fig. 7). 3-D and 2-D storm surge scenarios of
Aila during landfall are shown in Fig. 8(a) and Fig. 8(b) respectively.
6. Summary and Conclusions
The tropical cyclone (Aila), developed over the North Indian Ocean, is selected
to simulate the characteristics such as structure, intensity and movement. WRF-
ARW version 3.1.1, a state-of-the-art model, was chosen for simulating the
