In-Depth Information
Shell Beach on Herm and a walk around the ramparts in St Malo are two of the options
for a day trip away from the Island.
Sark: Sark is an island different to anywhere else in the world and well worth a visit.
Most people are aware of the fact that this is an island without cars, but that is just the start
of what makes Sark so different.
If time allows, before visiting Sark, it is worth reading “Mr Pye” by Mervyn Peake to gain
an insight into Island life. Probably the best way to travel around the Island is on one of
the numerous bicycles, which are available for rent.
It is often possible to catch a fast ferry from Jersey in the morning returning in the after-
noon. If you are able to make the visit to Sark, what is certain is that it will be a memorable
experience.
Alderney: It is only possible to get to Alderney by flying via Guernsey, so it is not a cheap
option and probably very few visitors to Jersey would consider a trip to the northern isle.
As with so many other Channel Islands Alderney has a unique feel, which is largely a re-
flection of its military past.
If time and finances allow it may be worth considering adding a couple of days onto your
holiday to visit Alderney, as opposed to a day trip.
Having lived on Jersey for nearly 50 years I am still discovering things to do and some little
known places, which I may not have seen for several years. So although I have mentioned
the other Islands, as this seems standard practice in guide books, I would suggest that your
time is better spent in Jersey, enjoying all that it has to offer.
