In-Depth Information
A relaxing walk around the walls of St Malo followed by lunch in one of the many excel-
lent restaurants, at prices to suit all pockets, is a very pleasant way to pass a day.
Guernsey: The second largest of the Channel Islands is connected to Jersey by numerous
flights, its just a 15 minute hop across the water, or by Condor's fast ferries but their times
do not really suit a day trip.
Both Aurigny and Blue Islands offer day returns by air. St Peter Port is a pleasant town
to walk around, with delightful views across the Little Russel to the other islands, such as
Herm and Sark.
Another suggestion would be to hire a car and spend the day driving around the island, the
west coast is very pleasant and if time and tide allow a walk across the causeway to Lihou
Island is a pretty unique way to spend a couple of hours.
Herm: Just a couple of miles east of Guernsey, Herm is a superb destination for a day trip
although it involves catching a ferry from St Peter Port.
It is easy to walk all the way around the Island in a couple of hours but it is well worth
stopping off at one of the east coast bays, of either Shell Beach or Belvoir Bay for a swim,
an ice cream or something more substantial.
There is a pub, on the west coast of the Island, which serves a good selection of food. It is
close to the small row of shops where it is possible to purchase some mementoes of your
visit to this very special place. I try to visit a couple of times each year but never tire of
that special charm which Herm possesses.
