Museums
There are a number of excellent museums on the island, some of which focus on specific
aspects of the Islands history, particularly the German Occupations whereas others have a
much broader remit. If you are planning to visit a number of the islands attractions then a
useful purchase could be the Jersey Pass . It gives you access to a number of museums, his-
toric buildings, wildlife attractions and other venues. It is available for 2, 4 or 6 days.
Channel Islands Military Museum : A museum devoted to the German occupation of the
Channel Islands with a comprehensive range of exhibits. It is located in a former German
Bunker, close to the sea wall.
There is plenty of parking plus there used to be a café and bar at The Chateau Plaisir, which
closed in August 2014. It is opposite Jersey Pearl, where there is a very pleasant café, at the
northern end of the Five Mile Road, St Ouen's Bay. Open from 10.00 to 5.00 daily, from
April to October, it is located on the 12A bus route.

Elizabeth Castle : Elizabeth Castle was built on a small rocky island in St Aubin's Bay and
there are two ways to arrive at the Castle, either on foot at low water or by one of the ferries,
which operate from West Park. However you decide to get there doesn't really matter but
Elizabeth Castle is one of those places you should endeavour to visit if time allows.
It is possible to spend time climbing to the highest battlements, which date from the late
16 th century, when Sir Walter Raleigh was the Governor of Jersey, with superb views across
large sections of the south coast. A walk along the late 19 th century breakwater is worth-
while and allows you the opportunity to look at the hermitage, which is where St Helier is
thought to have lived.
