The drive
leading towards this pretty little hotel is jokingly called an 'ecopath'. In fact, it is a dirt
track cutting through a
dacha
sprawl in a ravine close to Khersones. Despite the slightly
unfortunate location, the place is favoured by Russian rock and cinema stars whose pho-
tos adorn the lobby. There is a neat-looking garden with a small pool. Take a taxi - the
place is hard to find on your own.

What makes it call itself an art-hotel we can't fathom,
but it is a friendly place with a blackwood interior so favoured by former Intourist estab-
lishments. Without an expensive renovation, it somehow succeeded in making even the
cheapest rooms look homey. Only standard rooms have air-con.

Designers at Best Western must have been overexcited when the chain took over this
landmark building overlooking the bay from Primorsky Blvd. Thick carpets mute sounds
in the high-ceilinged corridors and the neoclassical lobby, which seems suitable for an
opera performance. But nothing can protect the bay-facing rooms from pop-music blas-
ted by seafront bars.

Very
helpful staff, a location on a quiet street and comfy pistachio-coloured rooms are
Olymp's main virtues. But the lobby could do without those faux-Greek motifs.
Eating & Drinking
Hungry, thirsty or in desperate need of a Segway ride? Head straight to Artbukhta,
Sevastopol's Soho, where many restaurants and fast-food outlets are located. Some of the
sleaziest nightclubs and bars are also to be found here.
