In-Depth Information
interactive elements, such as click boxes, while you're recording the
movie. See Chapter 4 for more information on recording movies.
Adding Interactivity with Boxes
and Buttons
There are three main types of interactive elements:
Click boxes specify an area where the viewer should click.
Text entry boxes specify an area where the viewer will type and
the text will display on the slide.
Buttons specify an area where the viewer will click, usually to go
to another slide.
These interactive elements can be added automatically when you're
recording a movie, or you can enter them manually for more exact con-
trol over how the viewer will interact with your movie.
Adding and Editing Interactive Elements
For each type of element, you'll need to specify a variety of properties:
Instructions on what happens in the movie when the viewer suc-
cessfully clicks in the specified area (such as go to the next slide
or display a URL).
Instructions on what happens in the movie when the viewer clicks
outside of the designated area (or types an invalid text string).
Optional captions that display on success or failure, or when the
viewer moves the mouse over the specified interactive area.
Timing, such as whether or not the movie should pause while
awaiting viewer input.
Audio, if necessary, as described in Chapter 8.
Instructions on how you want Captivate to store information about
the viewer's success or failure actions. This reporting information
can then be imported into other e-learning applications.
