In-Depth Information
To make this change:
Do this:
Paste in a new piece of audio
Copy the part you want to paste, then click on the audio graphic
so that the playhead displays in the location where you want to
add the new piece of audio. Right-click and choose Paste (or
press Ctrl+V). Note that you can only cut and paste audio within a
single file.
Add silence
Click on the audio graphic so that the playhead displays in the
location where you want to begin a period of silence, and then
click the Insert silence button. A window displays that allows you
to specify the length of the silence and lets you choose a location
for the silence (at the playhead location or the beginning or the
ending of the audio file). Enter a number in seconds, and then
click OK.
Add a new piece of recording
You can add to an existing audio file by clicking the Record but-
ton. The new audio will be inserted starting at the point where the
playhead is displayed.
Tip: This can be tricky. It works best if your audio setup is exactly
as it was when the original audio was recorded.
Undo a change
Click the Undo icon in the menu across the top of the window.
Tip: Use discretion when editing audio files. It is all too easy to
make audio edits that cause your file to sound stilted or awkward or
to create something that doesn't make sense. Often, it is easier and
quicker to rerecord the entire audio file.
6.
If necessary, you can adjust the volume of the entire audio file or
simply a portion of it. For example, if the person speaking turned
slightly while recording, a word or two may be quieter than you
like. You can select these words in the audio graphic and make
them a little bit louder. To display the Adjust Volume window, click
the Adjust volume button.
Figure 8-24. Adjust
volume as needed.
