In-Depth Information
7. Move the Volume slider up (to make the audio louder) or down (to
make the audio quieter) to change the volume of the selected por-
tion of the audio file.
8. You can also adjust the audio by selecting either (or both) of the
following audio processing options:
Normalize—Adjusts the sound volume automatically. This will
keep the sound level consistent across the selection or entire
audio clip.
Dynamics—Automatically increases the volume for the quiet-
est portions of the audio file. You can set a maximum ratio to
specify the factor by which the quietest audio should be
increased. You can also set a noise threshold, which specifies
the relative volume of the quietest audio that you want to
amplify. For example, you may have an audio file where most
of the sound is at an acceptable level, but some portions are
too quiet. A ratio of 2 would double the volume of the quietest
portions of the audio. A Noise Threshold setting of 10% would
specify that portions of the audio that are 10% or less of the
audio level of the rest of the file should NOT be amplified by
that ratio (they are likely to be background noise).
9. Click OK to close the Adjust Volume window.
10. When you finish editing the audio file, click OK to close the Edit
Audio window.
Changing Audio Timing
If you have audio files associated with individual elements, such as
text captions or click boxes, the audio timing is controlled within the
properties for that element. By default, the audio begins when the ele-
ment displays. You can move the element on the timeline as described
in Chapter 7 to prevent the various audio files from playing at the same
time. For audio files that are associated with the slide background, you
can use the Audio Timing control. For example, you can move the dis-
play of slides to let audio continue playing when the slide changes, or
you can move the slide so that more than one audio file plays while the
slide is displayed. You can also perform many of the editing functions
that were available while editing each audio file (such as adding silence
or copying and pasting bits of audio).
