Setting Up Audio Equipment
In order to record audio files for use with Captivate, you must have the
following minimum configuration:
Computer with sound card to record the audio.
Microphone with stand. The better your microphone, the more
professional your audio will sound. You'll need the stand to avoid
unnecessary noises from microphone movement.
Speakers so that you can hear the recorded audio.
In addition, you may want to consider some of the following equipment
to ensure a clean audio file:
Microphone preamplifier to boost the signal of the microphone.
Headphones to use while recording to avoid distracting feedback.
Recording software that lets you edit audio files or create sound
effects. Choose whichever software works for you, but it must be
able to create MP3 or WAV formatted files.
Once you've got everything set up, you'll need to calibrate the audio
input to make sure that Captivate can recognize your microphone and
your voice. Each time you begin to record an audio session, Captivate
displays a message asking you if you want to check your recording lev-
els. You can calibrate each time you record, or you can do it whenever
you begin a session or change hardware, even if you aren't recording
anything at the time.
To have Captivate calibrate your recording levels without record-
ing anything, follow these steps:
1.
Make sure your microphone is plugged in and turned on.
2.
Open an existing Captivate project.
3.
From the Audio menu, choose Settings .
