Note: If you stretch or drag an element on the timeline past the
duration for the whole slide, the slide duration (as represented by the
bottom of the stack) will automatically be extended.
Previewing a Slide
There are several ways to preview the way a slide will look when it is
played.
Click the Preview icon (
), then choose Play this slide .
Press F3 to display from the playhead to the end of the slide.
Press the Spacebar to display from the playhead to the end of the
slide.
On the lower portion of the timeline, click the Play icon (
).
Drag the playhead (
) across the timeline.
Note that previewing a single slide does not let you preview interac-
tive elements. You must preview multiple slides to access interactive
features.
In any preview, the playhead, represented by a vertical red line,
moves across the timeline as the slide plays. If you use the playhead
method to preview your slide, you can stop and examine the way the
slide will look at any given point in the display.
To manually move the playhead, click on the rectangle at the top of
the red playhead line and drag the playhead across the timeline. This is
called “scrubbing” the playhead. It's a common tool in movie editing
software and it can be done in reverse as well as forward to check ani-
mation, movement, etc., and is powerful for quickly checking and
adjusting timing.
In Figure 7-40, the playhead is at 2.9 seconds into the slide display.
At this point in the preview, the text caption and highlight box have
appeared, but the cursor has not yet displayed.
Tip:
As you move the playhead, the slide elements will display
according to the timing settings. When you release the mouse button
and the playhead stops moving, all elements will display, regardless
of the location of the playhead. To see just the elements at that par-
ticular moment, click the top of the playhead and hold the mouse
button down as if you were dragging the playhead.
