one-way, but allow at least three hours to reach the toe of Kathlyn Glacier. Just 500 meters
(0.3 mile) along the trail is dramatic Twin Falls, a worthy destination in itself. Beyond the
Glacier Gulch trailhead, Lake Kathlyn Road ends, appropriately enough, at Lake Kathlyn,
a photogenic body of water at the base of Hudson Bay Mountain.
Skiing and Snowboarding
The smallish winter resort on Hudson Bay Mountain (250/847-2058,
www.hudsonbaymountain.com , adult $55, senior $40, child $30) is mostly geared to be-
ginners and intermediates, but a few of the 19 designated runs challenge more experienced
skiers and boarders. Four lifts serve a vertical rise of 553 meters (1,750 feet) and 120 hec-
tares (300 acres) of mostly intermediate terrain. Facilities include two day lodges, a rental
shop, and a ski and snowboard school. To get to the resort, take either Main Street or King
Street south onto Railway Avenue and turn left; the base area is 23 kilometers (14 miles)
from downtown Smithers.
Fishing draws many visitors to Babine Lake.
