In-Depth Information
Babine Mountains Provincial Park
From Driftwood Canyon, Driftwood Road continues five kilometers (3.1 miles) to a park-
ing lot—the trailhead for trails leading into remote Babine Mountains Provincial Park,
protecting 32,400 hectares (80,000 acres) of the Skeena Mountains. From this trailhead, the
McCabe Trail leads eight kilometers (five miles) one-way to the alpine meadows between
Mounts Hyland and Harvey, while the Silver King Basin Trail climbs steadily through a
subalpine forest for nine kilometers (5.6 miles) one-way to another alpine meadow. Allow
three hours one-way for either option.
Kathlyn Glacier
About eight kilometers (five miles) west of Smithers on the Yellowhead Highway, take the
Hudson Bay Mountain Lookout turnout for magnificent views of the mountain and the
quickly receding Kathlyn Glacier on its north face. In the same vicinity, turn south off the
highway at Lake Kathlyn Road to the trailhead for Glacier Gulch, a strenuous 1,000 ver-
tical meters (3,280 feet) above the parking lot. The trail is only six kilometers (3.7 miles)
