In-Depth Information
The legacy of Terry Fox lives on in many ways, including the Terry Fox Run,
an annual fall event in many Canadian towns, and a $5 million scholarship fund. In
Vancouver, the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum holds a tribute to the courage
of Terry Fox, and in the adjacent Terry Fox Plaza, at the foot of Robson Street, a
pagoda-style arch made of steel, brick, and tile and topped by four lions has been
erected in his honor.
Vancouver is a popular jumping-off point for long-distance cycling trips, with nearby
Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands especially popular. In both cases, you'll
find relatively even terrain, quiet roads, loads of sunshine, and ever-changing scenery. For

of which are open to the public. It is often quoted that in Vancouver it is possible to ski in
the morning and golf in the afternoon, and because most courses are open year-round, this
really is true.
There's a pitch-and-putt golf course in Stanley Park (604/681-8847, 8am-6:30pm
daily). With 18 holes under 100 yards each, the course makes a fun diversion. Greens
fees are $13 per round, plus $1.20 per club for rentals. For serious golfers, the following
courses provide a truer test of the game.
One of the best courses open to the public is the University Golf Club (5185
University Blvd., Point Grey, 604/224-1818, www.universitygolf.com ). Contrary to its
