9.5.2. Floating-Point Arithmetic Pipelines
Using a similar approach, it is possible to pipeline floating-point (FP) addition
sub-
traction. In this case, the pipeline will have to be organized around the operations
needed to perform FP addition. The main operations needed in FP addition are expo-
nent comparison (EC), exponent alignment (EA), addition (AD), and normalization
