Finding More Mods
There's no go-to list of mods, but Planet Minecraft does have a very compre-
hensive offering (

). For best results look for mods that include
[FORGE] in their title, and remember to match the displayed version to your own
Minecraft version. The mods listed in this section provide just the tiniest glimpse
into what is quite an amazing amount of custom development. Mods exist that can
changethetiniestdetail,oraltertheentireexperience.Justremembertotreadcare-
fully when downloading or going through a custom install, and install the mods
one at a time, launching Minecraft in-between to ensure the mod hasn't broken the
main game. If it has, just delete the mod and move onto the next.
Multiplayer Madness
Playing Minecraft alone is all well and good (“sniff”), and there's plenty to keep one occu-
pied. But playing as part of a group can be a lot more fun and, if creative builds are your
goal, hugely more productive.
Minecraft provides several ways to party up:
LAN—
Share your world on your local network and anyone on the same wired or
wireless connection can join.
Join a Multiplayer Server
—Jump into any server to join other players. Some
servers support hundreds of players at the same time, engaged in acts both creative
and combative. More on these later.
Host a Multiplayer Server
—Start up your own server, punch a hole through your
firewall, and share your Minecraft world with the rest of the actual world.
Join Realms
—See the “Minecraft Realms” Note in the following pages.
There are a few pre-requisites to joining any multiplayer game, no matter the connection
method.First,eachplayerneedshisorherownMojangaccount(aMinecraftlicense),even
on a LAN. Second, the Minecraft client has to match the server's version. This means a
v1.7clientcan'ttalktoa1.6.2server.Finally,someserverswillbanplayersforusingmods,
andonaLANgameallthemodsthatchangeblocksoraddnewitemsmustmatchbetween
the client andserver.Once resource packs support mods, this will probably beamuch sim-
plerrequirement:justinstalltherecommendedresourcepackandyou'llbereadytogo.For
now,though,ensurethecontentsofyourmodsdirectorymatchacrossallPCsifplayingon
LAN.
