Only as the source media and +2 to make the Timeline active. Position the playhead at 1 minute, 16
seconds, and 1 frame just after the first ball bounce. Press Q to connect Scene 14 Slate 43 Take 4 to the
Primary Storyline over the Bouncing Ball on Stairs clip (see Figure 11.24). Position the playhead at 1
minute, 18 seconds, and 5 frames in the Timeline, and select Scene 14 Slate 43 Take 1 (favorite) in the
Event Browser. Press Q to also connect Scene 14 Slate 43 Take 1 to the Primary Storyline. Position the
playhead at 1 minute, 20 seconds, and 22 frames in the Timeline, and select Scene 14 Slate 40 Take 2 (first
favorite) in the Event Browser. Press Q to also connect Scene 14 Slate 40 Take 2 to the Primary Storyline.
Play back the selection, and you'll see not only that we've managed to hide some of the bounces that don't
line up with the audio, but also that we're starting to build the tension in the scene.

10. Let's now cover the jump cut that we created before the on-screen camera flash with a shot of Katie
about to take a photo. Select Scene 14 Slate 43 Take 4 (second favorite) in the Event Browser and play the
clip. The shot ends just after Katie snaps the photo, so all we need to do is back-time this clip from the
flash-frame in the Timeline. With Scene 14 Slate 43 Take 4 still selected, press Control+D to display the
clip's duration in the Dashboard. The clip is 5 seconds and 1 frame in duration. Press Esc to clear the Dash-
board's duration field, and position the playhead on the flash-frame in the Primary Storyline. This can be
found at 1 minute, 31 seconds, and 16 frames in the Timeline. Type -5.1 , and press Return to take the play-
head back by 5 seconds and 1 frame (the duration of our clip in the Event Browser). The playhead should
now be at 1 minute, 26 seconds, and 15 frames in the Timeline. Press Q to connect Scene 14 Slate 43 Take 4
to the Primary Storyline. Play back the section to see the result. The boy runs off just as Katie snaps the
photo; then Katie comes into frame and runs down the stairs after him.
11. To complete this section, let's add one more shot of Katie rushing down the stairs toward the camera.
You'll find this section as the second marked favorite for Scene 14 Slate 40 Take 2. Position the playhead at
1 minute and 33 seconds in the Timeline, select Scene 14 Slate 40 Take 2 (second favorite) in the Event
Browser, and press Q to connect the clip to the Primary Storyline (see Figure 11.25). To tidy up the
Timeline, select the five Connected clips that are attached to the Bouncing Ball on Stairs clip and press
+G to place them inside a Secondary Storyline (see Figure 11.26). Press the Home key to go to the begin-
ning and play the edited sequence.
