3. Select the Distance tool in the Measure panel to verify the thickness
of the material. (The material is 10 mm thick but might be presented
in inches.)
4. Zoom out to see the entire drawing, and then drag a selection window
around the geometry of the front view.
5. Press Ctrl+C to copy the geometry to the Windows clipboard.
6. Create a new part file using the Standard​(in).ipt template in the
English folder, create a new 2D Sketch on the XY plane, and then paste
(Ctrl+V) the entities into the sketch by clicking in the Design window to
place the data, as shown in Figure 14.2.
7. Close the c14-01.dwg file.

Once the data is placed into a sketch, you can use it to create features using
the geometry. You can also use the Inventor drawing tools to add drawing views
to the AutoCAD drawing that can be seen by AutoCAD users who open the file.
Importing AutoCAD Data
At other times, you might want to import an AutoCAD drawing to be edited in
the Inventor 2D environment.
1. Make certain that the 2013 Essentials project file is active and that
there are no files open, and then start the Open file tool.
2. Select the c14-01.dwg file from the Drawings\Chapter​14 folder, but
do not open it.
3. Click the Options icon to open the File Open Options dialog box.
