Working with AutoCAD Data
With millions of AutoCAD users, the chances are excellent that, at some time,
you will need to exchange data with an AutoCAD user. Working side by side with
AutoCAD users, you can take advantage of the ability to create drawings in DWG for-
mat that AutoCAD users can open and to which they can even add data. In Chapter
10, “Working with Sheet Metal Parts,” you used AutoCAD data to develop a folded
sheet metal part from a flat pattern by placing the AutoCAD data into a sketch.
Inventor is often
purchased as part
of a suite of tools.
AutoCAD is usually
included as part of
that suite. It can
be useful to have
AutoCAD installed if
you chose not to do
so initially.
Opening AutoCAD Data
Often, you only need to view the data to get information or create a print. You can
open an AutoCAD drawing file using Inventor without modifying the source file.
1. Make certain that the 2013 Essentials project file is active, and then
open c14-01.dwg from the Drawings\Chapter14 folder.
Once the drawing opens, a Review tab on the Ribbon (Figure 14.1)
provides tools to view, measure, and print the drawing.
2. Zoom in on the left view of the drawing.
