In-Depth Information
Placing the frame members always follows the same handful of steps. The edit-
ing process is also direct. The tools are dialog box-driven and typically require
only a couple of selections.
Editing Metal Frames
There are only a few editing tools for the Frame Generator, but they are more than
enough to make the type of changes typically needed in the process of designing
metal frames. Some of the tools allow for building in gaps for welding operations.
Any change in the skeleton will update the frame members as well as the edits
made to them.
Defining Joints with the Miter Tool
A common joint for metal frames is an equal cut on both parts. A gap can be
included in the miter equally divided between both parts, or it can be taken
from one side or the other.
1. Make certain that the 2013 Essentials project file is active, and then
open the c11-04.iam file from the Assemblies\Chapter11 folder.
2. Switch the Ribbon to the Design tab, and start the Miter tool from
the Frame panel.
When the Miter dialog box opens, you will be prompted to click two
frame members.
3. Click the blue beam for the first option and the red one for the second.
4. Set the gap to 0.130 in, as shown in Figure 11.6, and click OK to cre-
ate the miter.
