Inserting Members on Curves
Frame members can be placed on curved edges as well. Note that members
placed on curved edges cannot be edited with the frame-editing tools covered in
the next section of the chapter. To edit curved frame members, use solid model-
ing tools like Extrude or Split to remove portions of these components.
1. Make certain that the 2013 Essentials project file is active, and then
open the c11-03.iam file from the Assemblies\Chapter11 folder.
2. Switch the Ribbon to the Design tab, and start the Insert Frame tool
from the Frame panel.
3. In the Insert dialog box, set Standard to ANSI, Family to ANSI AISC
(Rectangular) - Flat Bar Steel, and Size to 2 4 × 16. Keep the orien-
tation in the center of the profile.
4. Make sure the Insert Members On Edges Placement option is active,
and click all the yellow lines and arcs on the skeleton.
5. Change the orientation point to be the middle right, set the rotation
angle of the section to 90 degrees, and select the Merge check box.
Your results will look like Figure 11.5.
You might need to use a different orientation to achieve the correct
results. Use the preview as a guide in all situations.
6. After the preview appears and is positioned correctly, click OK to cre-
ate the new frame member, and click it again to approve the name for
the part.
