Creating View Representations
View representations allow the user to control the visibility and appearance of
components in the assembly. Creating several view representations allows a user
or multiple users to see the assembly in whatever way they want.
1. Make certain that the 2013 Essentials project file is active, and then
open the c08-01.iam file from the Assemblies\Chapter8 folder.
2. Locate the Representations folder in the Browser. Expand the folder,
and expand the View group.
3. Right-click the Default view representation, and select Copy from the
context menu.
This creates a new view representation named Default1 at the bottom
of the list.
4. Click the new view representation twice slowly, and rename it Natural
Colors.
5. Double-click the browser icon of the new view representation to
activate it.
6. Right-click the Natural Colors representation, and select Remove
Appearance Overrides from the context menu.
7. Select c08-01:1 in the Browser, right-click, and then uncheck Visibility
in the context menu. Figure 8.1 shows the results.
8. Double-click the icon next to Default to set it as the active view repre-
sentation, and then switch the view representation back.
FIGURE 8.1 View representations can
save variations of color and visibility.
The updates to the assembly affect only the visibility and colors of the compo-
nents in the assembly. Another form of representation has a stronger effect.
