CHAPTER 8
Advanced Assembly
and Engineering Tools
Most of the tools needed for the day-to-day work of building assemblies were
covered in Chapter 4, “Putting Things in Place with Assemblies.” In this chap-
ter, you will use a few more tools to build your assembly.
Being able to navigate in the assembly and maintain your system's perfor-
mance is also important, and large assemblies can put you at risk of losing
data if your system runs out of memory. Autodesk ® Inventor ® software rep-
resentations can solve these problems, and you will see how to control your
assembly with them.
Much of the focus of this chapter will be on tools that allow you to work
more efficiently by creating geometry in the context of the assembly. These
tools also offer a unique opportunity by incorporating engineering calcula-
tors into them. You will see how to create common machine components,
but you will also see how to make sure they will do the job.

Controlling the Assembly Environment
An often-overlooked aspect of working with assemblies is controlling both
the look-and-feel of the assembly's view representation and, most impor-
tantly, its system demands. Both of these elements are easy to control but
are not automatic. There are three kinds of representation in Inventor that
enable this enhanced level of control: view, level of detail, and positional. In
this section, you'll try the first two.
