Setting the Object Defaults
As mentioned earlier in the chapter, the Object Default Set controls the elements
that determine the appearance of the elements in the drawing. The preceding
exercise changed the colors of the layers that objects were on, but the Object
Default Set determines the default layer and other styles that the objects use
in the first place.
1. Continue using the open file, or verify that the 2013 Essentials project
file is active and then open c05-06.idw from the Drawings\Chapter5
folder.
2. Start the Style and Standards Editor from the Styles And Standards
panel of the Manage tab.
3. Return to the Object Defaults style, and select the Essentials (in) style
to display its setting on the right.
4. Click the Object Style column header twice to sort the styles
alphabetically.
5. Scroll down using your wheel button or the slider bar on the right
until you see the various dimension types that use the Default—
mm (ANSI) dimension style.
Clicking an object style or layer on the right will display a drop-
down list of options.
To speed things up,
you can click a drop-
down and press the
key of the first let-
ter to jump to that
value. In this case,
you can press E.
6. Change all of the objects using the Default—mm (ANSI) style to the
Essentials (in) style using the drop-down menu.
7. Save the changes by clicking the Save icon at the top of the dialog box.
8. Change the Filter drop-down above the Object Type column to
Model/View Objects.
9. Locate the objects using the Hidden Narrow (ANSI) layer, and change
them to the Hidden (ANSI) layer.
10. Click the Save icon at the top of the dialog box to save the changes to
the Object Default Set.
11. Click Done to close the dialog box.
Now, you have control over the object that will be added to your drawing going
forward. You can update the existing objects or even publish these changes to be
used in other drawings or templates in the future.
