Defining a New Dimension Style
There are many opinions on the proper way to display dimensions even in rela-
tively well-defined standards like ISO. Now that you have your text style, you
can practice creating a simple change to define a new dimension style.
1. Continue using the open file, or verify that the 2013 Essentials project
file is active and then open c05-04.idw from the Drawings\Chapter5
folder.
2. Start the Style and Standards Editor from the Styles And Standards
panel of the Manage tab.
3. Expand the dimension styles, right-click the Default (ANSI) style, and
select New Style from the context menu.
4. Enter Essentials (in) for the new dimension style name, and click OK
to add it to the standard.
5. With the Essentials (in) standard highlighted, click the Text tab on
the right side of the dialog box.
6. Change Primary Text Style to the Essentials Text style using the
drop-down menu.
7. In the Orientation group of the Text tab, change the first Linear
option to display the text over the dimension line.
8. Change the Diameter and Radius options to display the dimension
value in line with the leaders, as shown in Figure 5.3.
9. Click the Save icon at the top of the dialog box to save the new stan-
dard in the drawing.

style options are represented
in the icons.
