In-Depth Information
Fillets are very common, and in Chapter 7, “Advanced Part Modeling Features,”
I cover additional techniques for placing them. It is also possible to place fillets
with several different values at the same time.
Adding Edge Fillets with Multiple Radii
Fillets are another critical feature in machine parts. Fillets have many options,
but for this chapter, you will focus on the edge fillet and placing fillets of more
than one radius using a single feature.
1. Make certain that the 2013 Essentials project file is active, and then
open c03-13.ipt from the Parts\Chapter3 folder.
2. Click the round edge where the sweep meets the extrude.
This presents a choice of the Create Fillet or Create Chamfer tool.
3. Select the Create Fillet tool.
4. Add the edge where the sweep feature meets the revolved feature.
5. Drag or enter a radius value of 6 .
6. In the Fillet dialog box, click where the words Click to add appear.
7. This adds a new row for using another radius size. Click the radius
value of the new row, and change it from 6 to 2.
8. Click the outer edges of the extrusion and revolved features near the
first set of fillets. See Figure 3.26.
9. Click OK to finish applying the fillets.
The option of placing a fillet or a chamfer on a sharp edge makes perfect
sense, so it is great that you have access to the option by simply picking a
sharp edge.
