6. Scan the results for interesting themes. To preview a theme,
click the thumbnail of the theme or the Preview link.
tip
It's okay to cycle through a few
themes in a few days while
you're experimenting, and you
can get blog visitors involved by
asking them to comment on dif-
ferent looks. Once you make a
choice, though, try to keep your
theme stable for many months
at a time. Your blog visitors get
accustomed to a given look and
feel and won't appreciate
change if it seems to be just for
the sake of change.
7. To activate a theme—even if it's just an experiment—click the
Activate link. The theme will be applied to your blog.
8. To change to a different theme, repeat steps 1-6.
Study your selected theme carefully to ensure that you like it,
that it fits your blog's current and anticipated content, and that it
fits the audience you have in mind for the blog.
Changing a Custom Header
Short of modifying CSS, as described previously and in Chapter
12, the main customization option is to modify a custom header, if
your theme makes this available.
Follow these steps to modify a custom header:
1. Go to your blog's Administration area.
2. In the Appearance menu, choose the Custom Header subpanel. The Your Header Image screen
appears, showing your current header image, as shown in Figure 3.6. Note that you also have
the option to reset your header image.
