have air-con. An excellent budget option, the spare rooms are no-frills and a bit like sum-
mer camp - you even have to provide your own linen. But activity rooms, a convenience
store and a first-aid station are on the premises and the beach outside your door is one of
the best on the island. The place gets booked a year in advance for summer and holidays,
but stands half-empty in low season.

Clean, bright and comfy - though not
particularly quiet - the upstairs rooms are good crash pads if you want to be in the thick of
Boquerón's small but vibrant commercial strip. For history buffs, the Shamar is the oldest
commercial building in Boquerón and has been a working bar for more than 50 years. The
upstairs rooms facing the water have small balconies.
Adamari's Apartments

Adamari's is the tall build-
ing right next to Parador Boquemar, with a launderette out the front. The nine clean effi-
ciency apartments (each with a kitchenette and many with ocean views) are serviceable and
good value for the price. They all have cable TV, which is nice, and mattresses covered in
some kind of protective plastic, which is not. Plus, if you like to sleep, this puts you a bit
out of earshot from Boquerón's party people.
Parador Boquemar

There's a bit of a rabbit-
hutch feel to the 60 generic rooms here, which are piled on top of each other over three
crowded stories in a building that has seen better days. That said, because this is Boquer-
ón and because you're essentially 'downtown,' the Boquemar is rather popular. The rooms
are clean, but probably about what you might expect from a slightly worn American motel.
In common with standard Puerto Rican paradores, there's a pool, an above-average on-site
restaurant and friendly, down-to-earth service.

For families, this is a nearly uniform recommendation - each unit is fully equipped with a
