Wildflowers INN $

in the heart of Boquerón, Wildflowers feels like a misplaced New England B&B. Doubling
up as a gallery, the cozy rooms and sleek communal areas display the work of local artists.
There's no maid service or breakfast, but economically priced rooms can sleep up to four
and there's shared use of a microwave and coffee machine along with private refrigerators.
Dark-wood floors and furnishings add a dash of 19th-century romance.
Buýe Beach Resort CABANAS $
( 787-255-0358; Hwy 30 Km 4.8; cabins $75; ) Located on a popular beach
north of town, this clean and simple operation has 16 cinder-block-and-tile cabins on the
beach. Each one accommodates three to four people and includes a private bathroom and
kitchen. There is a coin laundry here, too.
Boquerón Beach Hotel HOTEL $
( 787-851-7110; www.boqueronbeachhotel.com ; r $88-149; ) At the turnoff
for the balneario, this is a clean and efficiently run modern hotel, but beware of the beach
tag - it's actually on a busy road.
Eating
The cheapest eats are from the kiosks along Calle José de Diego, where vendors stand
proudly beside piles of oysters and clams, which are shucked open, juiced with fresh lemon
or hot sauce and slurped down on the spot. There are also numerous vendors serving pin-
chos - chunks of grilled chicken, pork or seafood, sometimes doused with barbecue sauce
and sided with bread - between $2 and $4.
La Marea SEAFOOD, CARIBBEAN $
(5 Calle José de Diego; mains $8-15; lunch-10pm) The motley and amiable crew of
locals, sun-washed yachters and young Puerto Rican honeymooners nod along to reggae at
this house of strong drinks, seafood and Borquerón's finest casual dining. The interior is a
classy notch above most of the alfresco dining on the strip, and sidewalk tables are a place
