where expats, locals and visitors mingle best. Fun is in the air at weekends when the bomba
drums get warmed up. Don't feed the iguanas - they're enormous already.
Dinghy Dock SEAFOOD $$
(CalleFulladoza;mains$10-29; ) Unusually for Puerto Rico, the DD has an all-you-
can-eat salad bar to quell your early hunger pangs, and you can chomp on your lettuce and
cucumber while watching the kitchen staff throw morsels of food to the giant tarpon that
swim right up to the deck. Fish is the obvious specialty here - fresh catches such as sword-
fish and snapper done in creole sauces. The busy bar is a frenzy of expats nursing Medalla
beers and acts as the unofficial island grapevine. If you haven't heard it here first, it's not
worth hearing.
Heather's PIZZA $
(pizza$8-20; ) In the center of town, across from the town hall, Heather's is a popular
hangout at night and a great pizza parlor. It gets popular in high season, so expect a wait.
Spot INTERNATIONAL $
(dishes$8-16; lunchMon&Wed-Fri,tapasdinnerMon&Fri,to2amFri) Coffee
connoisseurs rave about the espresso drinks, and locals will usually direct you here for the
twice-weekly tapas and the plethora of lunch choices including salads, grilled paninis, pita
sandwiches and burgers. The tiny place has style - with an array of red Chinese lanterns, a
checkerboard floor and a cobalt blue counter. Island restaurant workers trickle in after work
on Friday nights to kick back and play darts.
Pandeli CAFE $
(dishes$4-7; 6am-4pm; ) This popular early-morning deli/cafe sells pastries, pan-
cakes, salads, sandwiches and coffee. Come 8am it's inundated with schoolkids and stray
travelers. A good place to take breakfast and lunch and catch up on the local gossip.
PanaderĂ­a Tropical BAKERY $
( dishes $2-7; 5:30am-1pm Mon-Sat, 6:30-11:30am Sun & holidays) Grab a few
quesitos (sweet cheese pastries) on the way to the early ferry, or have this small bakery fix
you up with a tasty sandwich. Egg and pancake breakfasts served until 10:30am.
