as they've all eaten here at one time or another. Listed as one of Puerto Rico's leading
Mesónes Gastronómicos, Pasión por el Fogón is situated opposite the Villa Marina and -
in keeping with its name - has a real passion for cooking.
Calizo Seafood

On a bend in the road near Playa Seven Seas, Calizo produces seafood, steaks and
paella with a gourmet flourish. Dine in the outdoor courtyard with thatched umbrellas and a
spreading palm tree or in the air-conditioned dining room with pretty blue- and yellow-tiled
tables and work by local artists. Though seafood's the highlight, the Caribbean-infused
steaks (tamarind grilled mignon) and desserts (mango cheesecake and malanga brûlée) are
excellent too.

A new
eatery near the Ceiba airport, Puerto Nativo creates tasty variations on Puerto Rican favor-
ites, with half a dozen varieties of
mofongo
on offer, as well as fried pork, fresh seafood
and meat dishes such as the
empanada de res al caballo
(breaded steak topped with fried
egg). Relax with a drink (the bar closes at 2am Friday and Saturday and stays open until
midnight otherwise) on the large wooden porch and don't miss the live
música bohemia
on
Fridays.
Blue Iguana

FajardoInn
has two restaurants, but this one is by far
the best, with great Mexican fare, sharp service and unbelievably cheap prices (for sizable
portions). In the earlier hours it's a good option for families; later on the pool table and
ample bar attract a drinking crowd. On weekends it's very popular after 10pm, especially
for Friday-night karaoke.
