In-Depth Information
The four types of styles include the following:
Coverage style This represents a coverage as a fill area and an outline and
works great for a parking lot with a curb or a landscape area with stone edging. The
fill area or the outline can be omitted.
Material style This is like a coverage style but without the outline. This is
great for grass areas but not for parking lots with curbs because there is no way
to represent the curbed perimeter.
Material group style Like the name implies, this is a group of materials.
Currently InfraWorks applies only the first material in the list to the coverage
but perhaps in future releases this capability will change.
3d Model style Yes, that's right—3D model styles. A coverage can be an
assortment of 3D models like a crowd of people, a patch of forest, or even cars in
a parking lot.
Once you have launched the command and selected a style, you simply click
points in the model to create vertices on the shape. InfraWorks will automatically
round the corners of the coverage as you draw. To end the command, you simply
double-click the last point. When it is first created, the coverage will be draped
over the terrain, as shown in Figure 3.19. As you'll learn in the next section, you
can edit the elevations of the coverage to shape the land to fit your design needs.
fIgure 3.19 A newly created coverage is draped over the terrain.
