You can add or deselect from selection using paths.
The resulting selection.
4 If your Layers panel is not visible, choose Window > Layers now.
5 With your selection still active, select the Create new fill or adjustment layer button and choose
Curves; the Properties panel appears with the Curves control. You will create a simple curve adjust-
ment that will lighten the midtones.
6 Click the center of the Curves path and drag up. This adds an anchor point to the curve and adjusts
your tonal value in the midtones of your image. By dragging up, you are lightening the image. Don't
go too far, since you can degrade your image and lose some of the nice subtle values in it. Make a
slight change and then close the Properties panel.
Click the Create new fill or adjustment layer button and select curves.
Make a small midtone adjustment.
7 Notice that you have created a mask in your Layers panel. The mask controls where the curves adjust-
ment that you just made takes place. You will work on the front plate section later in this lesson.
