Creating your own keyboard shortcuts
In this next section, you will learn to easily create your own shortcuts using the Actions panel. This is
quite helpful for menu items that you might want to access quickly that don't have keyboard shortcuts.
To discover how the process works, you will create an Action to open the Place menu item.
1 Make sure that you can see your Actions panel. If it is not visible, choose Window > Actions now.
2 Select the Create new action button ( ) at the bottom of the Actions panel.
3 When the New Action dialog box appears, type Place into the Name text field; make sure you are sav-
ing into My Actions (the set you created earlier in the lesson).
4 For this action, you will use a keyboard shortcut. In this example, the F9 key was selected and the
modifier key (Shift) was checked.
5 Assign the color of Orange, and then click Record.
You will not perform any steps, since that would add settings and other unnecessary information in
your script.
Create an action for a keyboard shortcut.
6 From the Actions panel menu, select Insert Menu Item; the Insert Menu Item dialog box appears. It is
simply waiting for you to select a menu item from the menu in the Photoshop UI.
