Using actions in Button mode
When using actions, you can create a highly effective dashboard of all your actions by changing the view
to Button mode.
1 Make sure you can see your Actions panel and select Button Mode from the panel menu. The panel is
now shown as colored buttons that you can directly click to run your action. There is no need for the
Play selection button.
2 Detach the Actions panel by dragging it into the work area by its tab, then click and drag the bottom
right side to elongate it and expose the buttons in a horizontal view. This way you can position it
across the bottom for easier access.
Click and drag the right side of Action panel to extend it horizontally.
Self study
To help you truly understand the capabilities of actions, you can test some of the default actions and
change settings. Here are some interesting steps to try:
1 Use the image named advps1101.psd and make sure that the Background is selected.
2 Restore the Actions panel to list view by turning off Button Mode in the Actions Panel menu.
3 Select Stars Trails from the Actions Panel menu and then turn off the Flatten Image step by clicking
the checkmark at the far left.
4 Select the Stars Trails Rotation action, and then play the Action on the Background. Notice how you
can create an interesting effect and still keep the other layers editable.
