In-Depth Information
Layer Height (mm) determines the level of print resolution and deter-
mines the thinkness of each print layer. The default layer height is 0.27
mm, but you can experiment with layer heights as low as 0.1 mm if you're
looking for finer detail. If you are going to adjust this setting, start off
slow. Try a layer height of 0.25 and reduce it in increments of 0.02 until
you get down to 0.1.
Temperature (C°)
Allows you to set the temperature of your extruder or extruders and your
heated build plate, if you have one.
Speed (mm/s)
Allows your to set the speed at which your extruder will move during the
build. Speed While Extruding determines how fast your extruder moves
while extruding plastic. Speed While Traveling determines how fast your
extruder moves when it is not extruding plastic.
Troubleshooting
If you're having trouble feeding filament or having platform adhesion issues,
the following solutions may solve your problem.
Can't load MakerBot PLA Filament into the extruder
Try the following:
1. Make a fresh cut at the end of the filament. Cut the filament at an
angle—a narrow tip may help with loading.
2. Use more force when pushing the filament into the extruder. You
can't hurt your Replicator 2 by pushing on the filament, so use as
much force as necessary. Grasp the filament firmly and push it into
the middle of the hole on top of the extruder. To increase your grip,
you can hold the filament with a pair of pliers.
3. Ensure that you insert the filament straight down into the extruder,
not diagonally.
After you feel the motor grab the MakerBot PLA Filament, continue to
maintain pressure on the MakerBot PLA Filament for another ten sec-
onds.
Object is stuck to build plate
The following tips may help:
1. Use a craft spatula to gently pry the object from the build plate.
2. Try covering your build plate with blue painter's tape. This allows
your objects to stick to the build plate but also allows them to be
removed more easily.
