In-Depth Information
Turn off the visibility of the top two layers and select the doghouse layer.
3 Select the Zoom tool and then make sure to turn Scrubby Zoom off using the check box in the Magnifier
options bar across the top.
4 Using the Zoom tool, click and drag to create a zoom area of the upper-left part of the roof. If you did
not zoom correctly, press Ctrl+0 (zero) (Windows) or Command+0 (zero) (Mac OS) to fit the image in-
to your present window. Then try zooming again.
Zoom into the image to see the roof better.
You are zoomed in so you can create a more accurate path. Keep in mind that when you are this
zoomed in, you can press and hold the spacebar and click and drag to reposition your image at any
time.
Starting your pen path
At the end of Lesson 4, “Making Selective Changes in Photoshop CC,” you discovered how to start using
the Pen tool. In this section of the lesson, you have an opportunity to practice a bit more. You will use the
pen path to make a vector mask and eliminate the white background. The benefit to using a vector mask is
that it provides a very clean, precise mask, and can also be edited after the mask has been created. (For ad-
ditional practice using the Pen tool, see Lesson 11, “Working with the Pen tool.”)
1 Select the Pen tool and position your cursor over the top of the roof; you see an asterisk indicating that
you are about to start a new path.
