Now let's jazz the particles up a bit. With the plane
still selected, go to the “Material” button and add a
new material. Just above the “Preview” tab, change to a
halo material (“Halo” will become highlighted in blue).
Click on the color bar and select a nice bright yellow.
Change the halo size to 0.700 and tick “Rings” and
“Star” (Figure 13.38). Press Alt + the A key and run the
animation. Press Esc to exit, then cycle the animation
to frame 41 and render the image (Figure 13.39).
Experiment with rings, lines, stars, and halo size.
For example, in the “Material” tab untick “Rings” and “Star tips” to change the particle
render back to a plain halo. Set the halo size to 4 so that the image fills the camera view. In
the “Halo” tab, decrease the “Alpha” value to 0.100 to give the halo a transparent look; this
should produce something that looks like a cloud of smoke. If you place an object in the
