12.4.2 Cast Modifiers
Th e cast modifi er shift s the shape of a mesh, curve,
surface, or lattice to any of the predefi ned shapes in-
cluded in the modifi er (i.e., sphere, cuboid, or cylin-
der). Th e modifi er panel in Figure 12.53 includes the
following buttons:
X, Y, Z. Untick the boxes to disable the de-
formation on that axis.
Factor. Th e slider controls the deforma-
tion; 0 = original, add or subtract to de-
form.
Radius. Only deforms the vertices within
this distance from the center (0 = infi nite).
Size. Controls the size of the projection
shape (0 = automatic).
Vertex Group. If vertices are assigned to
a vertex group, only those vertices will be
aff ected.
Control Object. If a control object is used,
this determines the center of the eff ect.
Start with a default cube and subdivide it three times in edit mode. Apply a diff er-
ent cast type (sphere, cylinder, and cuboid) in the modifi er panel and notice the results
(Figure 12.54).

12.4.3 Curve Modifiers
Th e curve modifi er uses a curve to deform a mesh. Start with the default Blender scene and
scale the cube on the x -axis (use the S key + the X key) and subdivide it six times in edit
